Simply Books of Pocklington - Everything a bookshop should be.

Simply Books is a quality independent bookshop owned by mother and daughter Joyce and Sara.

We opened Simply Books in February 2006 when we realised that Pocklington had practically everything but a bookshop and we felt it was something the town was crying out for.

So far the people of Pocklington seem to agree with us and their first exclamation of ‘Oh, it’s a proper bookshop’ is usually followed by ‘this is just what Pocklington needed’.

In November 2008 we bit the bullet and decided to move to a slightly larger shop in the main street. This has been a hugely successful move and despite being bigger the new Simply Books has lost none of the charm of the tiny old shop. The shop still has the feel of an "old fashioned" book shop and has bags of character.

Being small and independent certainly doesn’t stop us offering a large, varied selection. We only stock one copy of every book, which leaves us room to have lots of different titles. What we don’t stock we can get for you, at no extra cost and usually within 24 hours. We’ll even try and track down out of print and second hand books for you.

We both love books and like nothing more than chatting about them (and usually lots of other things besides!) recommending good titles to read or making suggestions for good present books. We love a challenge so if you’re stuck for ideas, please let us help!

Our stock includes Fiction, Biographies, Classics, Poetry, Travel, History, Local Interest, Sport, Cookery, Gardening, Homes, Science, Nature, Health, Animals, Transport, Military, Art & Music, Hobbies, Religion and we have a large selection of children’s fiction and non fiction.

We also stock Audio Books and Classical Music and National Book Tokens are sold and accepted, as well as our own Simply Book Tokens.

We don’t just sell books. We aim to be part of the community and we hold Reading Groups, Creative Writing Groups, Storytimes for children, Storytelling Evenings and special themed story & activity sessions for children in the holidays. Keep an eye on the News page for details of these events.

Good independent bookshops are few and far between, especially in East Yorkshire. We hope you will pay us a visit and see what we have to offer.

We are open Tuesday to Saturday from 9.30 to 4.30pm.
